Southward Lane, Mumbles, Swansea The brief was to create a family home on an  infill plot in a residential area of Mumbles,  Swansea. The sites overriding characteristic is  its terrain with a near 1:2 incline from boundary  street level. A proposal as submitted to planning  is for a contemporary three bedroom house that  has been designed to work with the steep fall of  the site whilst trying to blend in with the  landscape. The layout has been carefully  planned to reduce the sense of overbearing and  loss of privacy to surrounding amenity space.  The pallete of materials chosen reflect the  stone, wood and vegetation on site and seeks  to reshape these into built form. The scheme  was submitted to the Design Council for Wales  where it was well received. The panel  commended the design for paying respect to  the conservation area whilst proposing a well  detailed new dwelling.
