Francis Street, Swansea 8 Residential Appartments The scheme was developed on a constrained  and sensitive infill site located between a grade  1 listed building and a terrace of residential  dwellings. Planning permission was granted in  2004 following an extensive design process.  The scheme was designed to reduce visual  impact by the reduction of ground levels  together with the introduction of a 'lightweight'  third storey achieved by setting in the external  walls and using a different material palette. The  internal layout was arranged to avoid  overlooking of adjacent residential windows and  gardens. Access to the apartments is via two  glazed pods located on the rear elevation.The  contemporary and simple design approach  respected the listed building and provided a  precedent at the time for a building of this type  in Swansea.
